Appeal from the Alumni President

Fellow Alumni/ae,

It has been more than 80 years since Loyola College was established with our founding Principal Rev. Fr. Bertram SJ in the heart of Chennai city.

“Loyola” continues its effort to provide quality education that helps the students to evolve as competent and committed professionals.

Our Alma Mater has now taken a great step forward to establish “The School of Business Studies”.

The main objective of the new institution is “to create a comprehensive and modern programme in Business and Economic Studies and research that will groom the business leaders of tomorrow”.

This institute will be a fitting tribute to all the stalwarts who adorned the faculty of Economics and Commerce in Loyola since its inception.

Loyola College 's endeavor should be fully supported by the Alumni fraternity and it is a once in a life time opportunity to serve the institution which shaped up our life and career.

I take this opportunity to appeal to all my fellow Alumnites to do their might and contribute generously by way of donation and also spread the word among your friends to liberally invest in this worthy cause.

All contributions are 100% tax exempted under 80G of the IT Act.

Kindly contact Alumni Office, Loyola College, Chennai, www.loyolacollege.edu to know more about how best you could all associate yourself with this laudable effort.

B. H. Kothari,
President, Loyola Alumni Association,

Fr. Rector's Message

Dear Alumni/ae,

It always brings to me and to all of us here in Loyola College `a sense of joy and gratitude' when we think of the Alumni/ae. For the simple reason that you are the `voice of Loyola' and remain as incredible spokespersons, wherever you are and whatever you do. I have heard many friends of mine and well-wishers gleefully commenting that the very presence of Loyolaites certainly bring in a sense of meaning, positive energy and creative vibration into any groups, in any situation and context.

It goes without saying that the visits of outstanding personalities in public life who are our own alumni visiting our college in the recent past, namely Mr. K. S. Sripathy IAS, Cheif Secretary, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Prof. C.K Prahalad and others as well gave a new impetus in `Our Journey Together as Loyolaites'. The Alumni meet of Commerce Dept. in Jan. 2009, History Dept. later, Loyola Career Fair 2008 wherein good many Alumni participated added new colour and vigor into our Alumni network.

My note will be incomplete if i don't mention about the spectacular event of LOHO Alumni meet (LOyola HOstel) in Jan. 2009. Though the meet confined to only hostelers, still it opened up a new spectrum of realities motivating all of us to go completely `broad based' regarding our Alumni Association. The content and style of it threw many more insights into the importance of getting in touch with `our own' all over the world. I am so deligthed to share with you, already under the able leadership of Mr. B. H. Kothari and the guidance of Fr. N. Casimir raj many initiatives are on the move, and good many are in the offing. Concrete measures are taken to this end. I am sure, the Alumni desk will keep you informed about the new developments. Many thanks to the staff who are at it.

While assuring of my full support to the leaders of the Alumni/ae and praying for your well beings and of your family members, let me also invite all of you to be constantly in touch with your `alma mater' to rejuvanate, to bring new hope and fraternity with the new genertaion of present day student community who are in need of our support, guidance and encouragement.

May the Independence day August 15th bring lot more joy and instill hope in the people of our great country India and to all our beings in order to achieve the impeccably carved out ideals enshrined in our constitution: Equality, Fraternity, Justice, Peace and Harmony. God Bless us all.

Rev. Fr. K. Amal, SJ
Rector, Loyola College

Fr. Secretary's Message

Dear Alumni/ae,

I am indeed very happy to wish the Alumni/ae of Loyola College through this bulletin, August 2009. Whenever I think of Loyola and Loyolites my entire being is overwhelmed with joy and happiness and gratitude to God, Almighty. Loyolite in general though ordinary, but achieve extraordinary things. Loyolites - some achieve great things; some serve the society with dedication and commitment; some try to make a mark in the history through their hard work. On the whole the enthusiasm of Loyolites is very great. Being a Loyolite myself and having associated myself with Loyola Alumni Association for years, what is common among Loyolites is their attachment to their Alma Mater and their commitment to the values they learnt at Loyola. My appeal to you is, at no cost, don't give up the values that received at Loyola and you grow with the values day by day.

“Our main business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand” Said, Thomas Carlyle a great counselor of our times. Yes dear Loyolites, Keep your ideals high enough to inspire you.

Rev. Dr. S. Peter Xavier, SJ
Secretary, Loyola College

Fr. Principal's Message

Dear Alumni/ae,

I am very delighted to reach out to you when the College is spearheading the 85th year of academic excellence. Loyola College has carried the flame for nearly 84 years through innumerable challenges to keep that flame alive and burning.

The department of Biotechnology has received the STAR STATUS from the Department of Science and Technology. This year we focus our attention on International year of Astronomy and Communion with Mother Earth in Human Solidarity. These relate to our response to ecological disaster and the onslaught of fundamentalism. In the words of Thomas Berry: The universe is not a collection of objects but a communion of subjects.”

Also the Department of Statistics will be commemorating the 50 years of its academic commitment to the world of Statistics.

I appreciate and congratulate Rev. Fr. N. Casimir Raj, SJ ; Director, Mr. B. H. Kothari, President, Alumni Association and Mr. A. Clint Eastwood for bringing out the Loyola Alumni Bulletin.
