Rector's Message

What have we done?
What are we doing?
What ought we to do?

These are the three questions constantly haunted St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus under whose patrons and guidance, LOYOLA COLLEGE – Chennai is functioning. And July 31st is the day dedicated for him and the feast is celebrated in full gusto and gaiety at Loyola.

As true Loyolaites of all times we too ponder over these questions. True that our elders, in the past, were poignantly stalwarts, and contributed their mite to the nation with their ingenuity and creative thinking and imagination. No second opinion about it, and people were looking up to Loyolaites.

Can we proclaim, at present, the same? The genuine answer is that we struggle, we search, we grope. It does not mean that the blame rests on the present generation. When the entire world is on a mad race, the humanity is panting to survive in the Tsunami of changes and developments – very often lopsided ones, occurred in the 2 decades so swiftly in a mindboggling manner. Coupled with this there are continued alienation processes at work ideologically, culturally, geographically and physically as well.

While realizing that there is a dearth of new knowledge, new models and alternatives available particularly in the field of higher education, the spontaneous question is What ought we to do as true sons and daughters of Loyola?

Here is a golden opportunity when Loyola Alumni Association is going to gather in a mega scale on AUGUST 28th, 2010 under the leadership of Mr. Shyam Kothari (president) and Fr. Casimirraj (director). A day of integration of the past and the present Loyolaites will be an ideal time to grapple with such questions. The answers cannot be far away from us.

Our founding members are asking us if not you Loyolaites, then who else? It is our turn to contribute to the turn of events in the history, today, right now, in the field of higher education and research in particular. Our efforts and its fruits will certainly contribute in a formidable manner to the buildup of a new society provided we keep our hearts and minds open.

I take this opportunity to wish every success and support to the Alumni Director, President and their teams who are working round the clock so passionately with high level of commitment and dedication.

As a Head of the Loyola Family it is my pleasant duty to WELCOME EACH AND EVERY ONE OF OUR ALUMNI/AE from all over the world. Do come and enrich the gathering by your presence.
