The Loyola AICUF Tamil Unit is affiliated to the AICUF National student's
movement.
The Loyola AICUF Tamil Unit was initiated for the year
2004 - '05 on 4.8.04. The Prinicipal, Fr. Albert Muthumalai, Dean of
Students (Loyola College), Dr. Sagayaraj, the advisors of the Tamil
and English units, Prof. Selvanathan and Prof. Manohar and State advisor,
Fr. Singarayar S.J. presided over the function. The theme for this year
is,
"Marching towards
an egalitarian society"
It has been a pioneer in nurturing the talents of the
marginalized students and channelising their youthful energy towards
a greater social cause. It has been walking shoulder to shoulder with
the rural students and inculcating a sense of humanitarian concern in
the minds of all the Aicufers (members of AICUF).

Activities:
It has been performing the following duties:
- A remedial course in English has been arranged for the tamil medium
students during the weekdays from 2 to 3 p.m.
- On 21,22 July 2004 a fact finding team went to Kumbakonam to gather
information on the tragic death of over 90 school children in the
fire incident.
- On 30.7.04 and 1.8.04, Aicufers went for a fieldwork to Chengalpattu
in association with the SC/ST commission of Chengalpattu Diocese.
- Mr. Alex from Thanjavur spoke on the merits of physical fitness,
yoga and body language. He conducted a few exercise in the street
theatre.
- A 2-day exposure camp was organised for the Aicufers on 21 st
and 22 nd August 2004 in a village in Villupuram District. The Aicufers
had a one to one interaction with the Dalits in those villages and
understood their difficulties.
- A documentary film, 'Parai' was screened at the AICUF House on
27.8.04 and discussions were held.
- A discussion was facilitated by the women's co-ordinator on issues
concerning women.
- A street play camp was organised from 14-18 September 2004 and
Mr. Jeyachandran, an old student of Loyola and currently an alternative
media trainer in Don Bosco Institute of Communication Arts consented
to be the resource person.
- A journalism camp was organised from 22-24 September 2004,
- A rally was taken on 19.8.04 in solidarity with the SFI students
subjected to physical abuse.
Further the unit's executive committee under the able
guidance of the advisor Prof. Selvanathan has planned various other
activities in the forthcoming months of this academic year.
