Annual Report (2006-2007)
Annual Report (2007-2008)
Till 1990 the Principals of
Loyola College also acted as the Coordinators of the Loyola Alumni
Association. From 1991 to
1998
Rev. Fr. Lawrence Sundaram, S.J. was the Director
of the Alumni Association. For eight long years he was very active
giving
directions
to the association. Loyola Alumni Association has grown to great heights
during this period. After his demise in 1998, Rev. Fr. P.
Susai, S.J. was the Director for one year and Rev.Dr.
J. Inchackal, S.J. took over the reins and directed
the association till June 2000. Rev.Dr. S. Peter Xavier,
S.J., who
has been the Director of Alumni Association from July 2000 - June
2005. Under
his leadership,
the association scaled new heights. Since July 2005 onwards Rev.Dr.
Danis Ponniah, S.J. has been holding the coveted
post. After two years of service to Loyola Alumni Association Fr.
Danis Ponniah, S.J. on 17th September 2006 to St. Xavier's College,
Palayamkottai. During tenure Fr. Danis Ponniah, S.J. strengthened
the LAA very much. Rev. Dr. S. Peter Xavier, S.J. once
again was appointed as the director of LAA on 27th September. His
return to the Alumni
Association would hopefully enliven the association and revitalization
of the association is very much expected to him.

Sincere thanks to the Principals - Prior to 1990
- who were the coordinators of Alumni Association and to Rev.
Fr. Lawerence Sundaram, S.J., the Alumni Association's first
Director. Prof. S. Swaminathan who was shouldering
the responsibility of the President of the Alumni Association for more
than five years passed away all of a sudden. He was really an exemplary
person. He associated himself with Loyola for many years. He guided
the Association in the proper direction. He was truly a Jesuit Alumnus
in every sense. A Young, Gentle and unassuming Mr. B. H. Kothari
(Chairman, H.C. Kothari Group of Companies, Chennai - 34) is the present
President of the Loyola Alumni Association.
Nature and Aims of Loyola Alumni Association
Loyola College aims at the training of young men and
women of quality to be leaders in all walks of life and to serve their
fellowmen in justice, truth and love. It is expected that this training
will play a vital role in bringing about the desired change for the
betterment of the people of our country, particularly the poorer and
marginalised sections of society, especially the dalits. Further, it
will foster an atmosphere of intellectual vigiour and moral rectitude
in which the young men and women of our Country may find their fulfillment
and achieve greatness as eminent men and women of service. Loyola Alumni
Association collaborates towards this great venture effectively preparing
the students to become socially conscious men and women.
The Growth of Loyola Alumni Association
As on 1st August
2007, there are 15750 members in our Association, out of whom
2241 are life members and
the rest
are
under
the category of new graduates. This year alone 1662 students enrolled
themselves as new graduates. We encourage all our outgoing students
to enroll their names into the Association and to become life members.
We wish that the life members of the Alumni Association could suggest
their colleagues to join the Alumni Association if they have not yet
become its life members.
The Ever Active Loyola Alumni Association
- Keeping in line with our admission policy
- namely to educate the marginalised students, the need was felt
for a long time to
help the poor and deserving students to meet their educational
expenses. The last academic year (2006-2007) we have contributed
more than
Rupees One lakh sixty thousand towards Students Scholarships
in the form of Semester fees, Examination fees and Hostel mess
fees.
- We have planned to collaborate with the service organisations
and undertake activities for out reach programmes.
- To support the economically poor students, we have planned to
orgainse batch-wise reunions. One important motive of the reunions
is to raise funds for poor students' scholarship.
- Scholarships are created for deserving current students with the
support from our Alumni. Different batch groups have been encouraged
to create a corpus and scholarships for the poorer and needy students.
Accordingly B.Com. - 1982 Batch, has created a
corpus to the tune of Rs.2,20,000/- and sent the amount to Fr.
Principal
with the request that this amount may be a corpus and the interest
earned from this corpus to be utilized towards the educational
needs
of the poorer students. The Golden Jubilee Batch of Economics has
also created a scholarship for Rs.47,000/- for the deserving needy
students and also a endowment scholarship of Rs.10,000 is instituted
by Sri K. Koti Reddy in the name of Fr.
Royappar. Batch 1978 has
instituted Silver Jubilee
Commerce 1978 - Scholarship with the initial amount of
Rs.1,07,500/-.
- To revive the northern chapter.
- Planning to start a new chapter in Salem zone.
