THE ROTARACT CLUB OF LOYOLA COLLEGE

Annual Report (2006-2007)

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women aged 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are usually community-based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club making them true "partners in service" and key members of the Rotary family.

Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.

All Rotaract efforts begin at the local grassroots level and Rotaract clubs have access to many of the resources of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 8,000 Rotaract clubs in some 155 countries and geographic areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon.

Rotaract Club of Loyola

The Rotaract Club of Loyola is a college or university based club, is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Madras and belongs to the R.I.Dist. 3230.

Prayer

Our Lord in heaven, as we stand before you today

We thank you for our lives, and for these graces we pray:

Strength to carry humanity, Determination to behold our goals,

Willingness to serve others, Bravery to be bold.

Love to be compassionate and treat all men the same,

Courage to win our battles and stay true to our club's name.

May your graces come upon us, your children as we are:

To anoint us with your virtues and fill us with your power;

So we in honest sincerity might do as we are told

For the glory of our mission so its benefactions can be manifold

Various projects under our purview:

We work on a variety of projects ranging from blood donation to conducting inter school and inter collegiate functions and competitions. The forte of the Rotaract club of Loyola has always been selfless service with an aim to reach out to the grass root level of each area we decide to dwell on.

As rotaractors, we develop our leadership skills, interpersonal communication skills and build values and moral fibre. Not only do we learn to deal with various facets of day to day life, but we also get a birds eye view of the problems faced by our community and the challenges one needs to face while dealing with them. The smallest of projects like our 'Vandalur Zoo' project has been highly commended and has received extensive media coverage.

A few of the current projects being undertaken are the ongoing blood donation, the Vandalur Zoo project , Oxfam- India project, providing for the fees of poor students as well as occasional fundraisers to help NGO's such as life. We also rush to the aid of victims of natural and man-made disasters.

  Rotaract 2007 – 2008 – Making Dreams Come True

“Some men see things as they are and say, "Why?" I dream of things that never were and say, "Why not?"”

- George Bernard Shaw

As the youth, we the members of the Rotaract of Club of Loyola are bubbling with ideas and innovations to better not only our own lives, but the world around us. As it is not always possible to achieve goals alone, our initiative this academic year is to encourage each other to dream big and to support those dreams whenever assistance is required. In order to stress the importance of the power of a dream and the great potential it possesses in the advancement of life, we have chosen our Club's theme to be:

“Making Dreams Come True”

We would also like to thank the outgoing board for all their guidance and support and for laying for us a strong foundation on which we can carry on the ventures of the club. We hope to live up to the expectations of all those who believe in us.
