Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is a global organisation of educational
institutions from over forty countries created in 1975 with the aim of creating a
change in the world by bringing together the best from the academic and the
corporate world. SIFE Loyola, since its inception in 2006, has left an indelible 42
mark of positive opportunity generation in the lives of the communities we have
worked with.
SIFE Loyola, with our aim as the stars and feet firmly on the ground, continues to
strive forward in its efforts to transform the lives of our brothers and sisters all
over the country.
During 2009-10 SIFE Loyola worked on two large scale projects:
ECOGREEN- DROPS OF CHANGE – Through the project Ecogreen SIFE
helped over a hundred farmers from Tirunelveli District to overcome poverty,
ignorance of market economics and despondence by creating a holistic business
model involving financial literacy programs, methods to create inclusiveness
amongst the farmers, development of an organic formula that increases yields
while incurring minimum cost and emancipation from the moneylenders.
AMUDHU – THE TASTE OF SUCCES - Project Amudhu is about the efforts of
SIFE Loyola to bring about a sustainable change in the lives of Palmyrah Tree
Tappers in the Chettivilai Locality of Tuticorin District.
SIFE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The SIFE Core Team Jayadev Sreekanth, Naseeha M, Theresa Minu Dominic, S
Gautham and Suhail Ismail under the guidance of Faculty Advisor Professor
Josephine Jeyashanthi and Project Coordinator Samson Durai presented the
success stories of the two above projects in the SIFE Regional Competition. The
scale of impact of the projects of SIFE Loyola stunned all as SIFE Loyola moved
on to represent the South Zone in the National Championships. SIFE Loyola was
chosen to represent the entrepreneurial potential of India – India’s ability to
create a tangible and sustainable change in the world we live in – at the SIFE
World Cup in Los Angeles where the National Champions from forty countries
showcased their projects. SIFE Loyola received – 4th
Place among 39 countries /
1500 universities.
