FUTURE DIRECTIONS
Loyola College has stood above the rest in its approach to education and
in its pedagogies. The ways we teach and the ways our students learn are unique
and creative. Consistently, we never hesitated to look into our deficiencies
and transform us to an efficient agent of social change. Many critics would
confirm that the College has substantially contributed to the process of
National Development by providing quality education and thereby enabling the
students to become globally competent. We have plans and dreams in the years to
come. We propose to introduce academic Audit for every department by external
experts. This aims at regular scrutiny of the quality of teaching and the
content of teaching. This will certainly go a long way in enhancing quality in
education in accordance with the objectives of the institution and in serving
the society at large with sensitivity and commitment. We envisage, in the
coming years, an interdisciplinary research in science and social sciences. The
college as an autonomous institution has achieved many feats and climbed new
heights. NAAC’s accreditation at A+ level and award of the college with
potential for excellence were some of them. Sooner or later we hope to be
honoured by the UGC as a Degree Awarding College.
One of the persons who has made a huge contribution to the growth of the
college undoubtedly is Rev. Fr. B. Jeyaraj, Rector. Compassionate to the poor
and the marginalised and committed to visionary leadership have shaped the
college to become responsive to the demands of the time. Visiting the college
one would easily become aware of the changes he had brought in the college both
in terms of infrastructural facilities and employment of personnel for the
College. As he completes his term as Rector we thank him for his service to the
college and wish him every best in the years to come.
In equal measure we want to thank Rev. Fr. Andrew, Secretary. He also
completes his term of service. We appreciate him for his commendable
achievement. He mobilized resources from internal sources and utilized them
efficiently for the all round development and the growth of the institution
keeping in mind the plans and strategies. We wish all success in the years to
come.
Accompanying our students has been one of our primary focuses in
character formation in the college. To achieve that end, Dr. P. Sagayaraj, Dean
of students, has done a splendid job. As he completes his term we want to
express our sincere gratitude for his committed service in planning, organizing
and conducting Student Union activities. He has the rare distinction of
mobilizing and utilizing funds from external sources throughout his term of
three years. It is remarkable that he could achieve all these in the midst of
his research activities. It is worth mentioning that he has produced five PhDs
in this academic year alone, an unenviable record indeed.
My special thanks are to Dr. J M V Kalaiarasi, Dean of Women Students
for her excellent coordination with the Dean of Students in the successful
conduct of Student Union activities. As the first Dean of Women Students she
made an indelible mark in organizing many relevant and innovative programmes
for women empowerment. I thank for her loyal and committed service.
The world today expects quality in every field. If we do not monitor our
progress and observe the maintenance of quality and excellence we will be
relegated to the background. In our College we have made sincere efforts to
maintain quality. In this important work, the contribution of Prof. Joe
Jesudurai is significant. His loyalty, dedication and motivation were edifying
and inspiring to everyone who worked with him. He always demonstrated in his
activities a blend of discipline and compassion. We thank him and wish him all
the best in the coming years.
Finally, I want to thank sincerely Dr. Baldev Raj for his presence today
as the Chief Guest. I specially congratulate him on his sustained initiatives
towards improving the quality in science education in Universities and
Colleges. We appreciate him for motivating and retaining the bright young
talents in active scientific research. Sir, the management, members of the
Staff and Students are very happy to have you with us this morning. May I
invite you to address our students and inspire them to envision a bright
future, not only for them but also for our nation so as to reach greater
heights of glory and also request you to distribute prizes to the meritorious
students.
Thank you very much.
