HOD's Message

Reimagining Futures

The Visual Communication Department of Loyola College has served the student community exceedingly well for the past 30 years (1989-2020). It has always been a benchmark of excellence, thanks to the vision of its founders and the continuous effort of stalwart Professors who shaped it, with every class and every academic year.

In keeping with the vision of the college, the Viscom department aims at shaping creative, entrepreneurial and socially responsible students, whose work stands out as a class apart. Innovation and leadership with the human touch is our core value system.

Our academic approach is a blend of theoretical framework with hands-on practical training. Apart from technology-enabled classroom lectures, our students are involved with practical work in the media field from day one. We encourage them to apply what they learn in the classrooms from the first semester itself.

Our students find their unique specialization very early, because we insist on: immersive learning, high-quality internships, continuous projects, AV productions, constant drawing exercises and exposure to production. This gives them confidence and experience to reimagine the future and shape media platforms.

Within our department, we have LAMP (Loyola Arts and Media Production), which is a state-of-art studio set-up that gets our students industry-ready. Students produce short films, documentaries, PSAs with high-end cameras, and use the iMac editing lab for post-production. Students use the professional Recording and Audio Studios, and our Computer and Animation Labs for their projects on a daily basis.

The Loyola Viscom Film Club conducts monthly screenings and film discussions with ace filmmakers and technical crew. Every week, our students interact with the topmost media professionals: from animators, filmmakers, theatre artists to journalists. No single day is just another regular day of classes.

Our Photography, Theatre and Animation clubs are also very active. There is always a media professional interacting with students and teaching them the latest industry trends and techniques.

Our excellent group of Professors and Technical Instructors have diverse industry experience& specializations. They teach, challenge and constantly upgrade our students using presentations, seminars, online & offline projects. They have excellent media links and networks, which they bring into class.

Mentoring is a strong Loyola tradition, and our Professors constantly hand-hold students into both their career paths and across any personal challenges.

The department regularly conducts national seminars and international conferences to foster Communication Research. Even amidst this unprecedented COVID-19 lockdown, we have conducted 17 webinars and a virtual conference. A high-end research journal is in the offing, and we will soon become a full-fledged research department.

We have a dedicated in-house Placement Cell that conducts placement drives and brings in the best national companies. Our students are in all top media houses: from television networks, advertising & social media agencies to animation companies.

In fact, many of them get placements before their final year itself. A large number have also chosen to open their own studios & agencies because they are ahead of the existing industry standards. They develop their own business plans and products to shape the game of the media industry.

In the spirit of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order, our department works to form men & women of Magis (excellence), and for others.

Communication is for Human Dignity
