The Department of Visual Communication and B.M.M held a grand multi-tiered celebration encompassing the inauguration of the Trailblazers’ Wall, the Department Association Investiture Ceremony, and the Fresher’s Day event on Wednesday, the 15th of July 2026. This foundational milestone successfully brought together notable department alumni, academic administrators, incoming students, and contemporary media artists.
The day began at 10:30 am with the inauguration of the Trailblazers’ Wall. The wall elegantly hosts the image, designated role, and an inspiring quote from each of the office bearers of the Association. The official ribbon cutting was executed by Mrs. Pushpa, a distinguished alumnus of the RVC (1995-1998) batch and recipient of the prestigious Best Director award at the 2018 Sarajevo Film Festival for her short film “Pournami.” Addressing those gathered, she mentioned being completely awestruck seeing the massive institutional growth of the department. The launch proceedings were graced alongside by the Head of the Department, Rev. Fr. Justin Prabhu SJ.
The morning’s proceedings seamlessly transitioned to the Viscom Amphitheatre, where Mrs. Pushpa administered the official oath of office to the newly elected and appointed department leaders. She took a moment to reminisce about her formative student experiences in the exact same venue under the guidance of Fr Rajanayagam, who had strongly shaped their batch. The event commenced standardly with the rendering of the Thamizh Thaai Vaazhthu and concluded formally at 12:15 pm with the singing of the national anthem. A commemorative group photo of the new Department Association members alongside the chief guest and HoD was taken.
The time then came to welcome the new arrivals via the official Fresher’s Day function starting at 12:30 pm. Aptly named “First Day, First Show” and held out in the primary Amphitheatre, the festive event was headlined by popular Think Indie artists Rudh and Thamizh Aadhavan, who performed their viral hit tracks “Rare Piece Vanjaram” and “Kaadhal Yathiriye.”
The incoming freshers actively participated by cosplaying as their favorite movie characters and were further entertained by targeted stage performances from the senior batches. This comprehensive welcome process ensured the incoming 2026 batch received an extremely warm welcome into their new academic surroundings. The celebration drew to a close at 1:30 pm with refreshments served out to the freshers.
